Spotlight on Sasha Rodriguez, LPC, CCHP: Making a Difference Through Compassionate Mental Health Care
For Sasha Rodriguez, LPC, CCHP, a career in mental health has always been about helping people navigate difficult circumstances while recognizing the strengths they possess within themselves. Today, as a Mental Health Provider at the Garfield County Jail, Sasha brings that passion to work every day, supporting patients through challenges, promoting recovery, and helping create positive outcomes within the correctional environment.
At CorrHealth, we are proud to recognize team members like Sasha whose dedication, professionalism, and compassion make a meaningful difference in the lives of the patients they serve and the colleagues they work alongside.
A Passion for Helping Others
Sasha chose a career in mental health because of a deep desire to help people through some of life’s most difficult moments. She believes that everyone deserves access to compassionate, evidence-based care, regardless of their background or circumstances.
“Being able to support individuals during some of the most challenging moments of their lives is incredibly meaningful to me,” Sasha shares.
That commitment to helping others ultimately led her to CorrHealth. She was drawn to the organization’s focus on providing quality healthcare within correctional settings and saw an opportunity to serve a population that often faces significant barriers to receiving mental health treatment.
Working at Garfield County Jail allows Sasha to combine her passion for behavioral health with her desire to advocate for underserved individuals while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team focused on patient care and safety.
Life as a Mental Health Provider
As a Mental Health Provider at Garfield County Jail, Sasha’s days are both challenging and rewarding. No two days are exactly alike, which is one of the aspects she enjoys most about her role.
Her responsibilities include reviewing referrals, conducting mental health assessments, performing suicide risk evaluations, meeting individually with patients, creating treatment plans, and coordinating care with medical providers, psychiatric services, and custody staff.
Each interaction presents an opportunity to support patients who may be experiencing mental health concerns, emotional distress, or significant life challenges. Through counseling, crisis intervention, and ongoing support, Sasha works to ensure patients receive the resources and care they need while helping maintain safety throughout the facility.
While much of her work involves direct patient care, Sasha notes that one of the most important aspects of her role often happens behind the scenes.
“Building trust is essential,” she explains. “Effective mental health care in a correctional environment depends heavily on establishing rapport with patients while maintaining professional boundaries.”
Strong communication and collaboration with medical, psychiatric, and custody teams are equally important. By working together, concerns can be identified early, treatment plans can be coordinated effectively, and continuity of care can be maintained.
The Power of Teamwork
One of the things Sasha values most about working with CorrHealth at Garfield County Jail is the collaborative environment.
“The teamwork and collaboration,” she says. “Our team genuinely cares about the well-being of our patients and supports one another in managing the unique challenges that come with correctional healthcare.”
That commitment to teamwork is something her colleagues recognize as well.
Garfield County Jail HSA Crisol describes Sasha as an invaluable member of the team.
“I feel very fortunate to have Sasha on our team at Garfield County,” Crisol says. “She does an exceptional job advocating for our inmate-patients and ensuring they receive high-quality mental health care. Her dedication, compassion, and professionalism are evident in everything she does.”
Crisol also highlights Sasha’s ability to support not only patients but also her coworkers.
“Not only does she genuinely care about the individuals she serves, but she is also a supportive and valued teammate.”
Going Above and Beyond
For Sasha, providing mental health care extends beyond counseling sessions and assessments. She is constantly looking for ways to improve the overall experience and outcomes for the patients she serves.
Her colleague Jim has witnessed that commitment firsthand.
“Sasha is dedicated and hardworking for the patients she supports within the jail,” he says. “She does a great job connecting with each individual she meets and consistently treats them with respect.”
According to Jim, Sasha’s advocacy reaches far beyond her daily responsibilities. She actively works on initiatives designed to improve life within the facility, including exploring opportunities to expand library resources and identifying ways to encourage more positive interactions between staff and patients.
“When it comes to creating better outcomes for the inmates, Sasha is constantly advocating for the jail population through programs she is working on and other creative approaches she continues to develop for the benefit of all within the walls of Garfield County Detention Center,” Jim explains.
Her efforts reflect a broader commitment to improving patient well-being while fostering a supportive and constructive environment.
Motivated by Meaningful Moments
When asked what motivates her to continue delivering excellent results, Sasha points to the impact even small interactions can have on a person’s life.
Whether helping someone through a crisis, supporting their recovery journey, or simply providing a safe space where they feel heard, those moments reinforce why she chose this profession.
Correctional mental health care often involves meeting people during difficult chapters of their lives. Sasha understands that meaningful change can begin with a single conversation, a moment of trust, or a simple act of compassion.
That perspective continues to guide her work and fuels her commitment to providing high-quality care every day.
Beyond the Facility Walls
Outside of her role at Garfield County Jail, Sasha enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, and exploring the outdoors.
Many people are surprised to learn that she is bilingual and regularly provides services in both English and Spanish, helping her connect with a broader range of patients and ensuring they feel understood and supported.
She is also passionate about lifelong learning. Whether pursuing continuing education opportunities or exploring new approaches in behavioral health, Sasha is always looking for ways to expand her knowledge and strengthen her clinical skills.
That dedication to professional growth not only benefits her personally but also enhances the care she provides to her patients.
A Lasting Impact
Sasha’s work as a Mental Health Provider at Garfield County Jail reflects the values that define CorrHealth: compassion, professionalism, collaboration, and a commitment to doing what is right.
Through her advocacy, clinical expertise, and genuine care for others, she continues to make a meaningful impact on patients, colleagues, and the broader Garfield County community.
