CorrHealth is proud to celebrate its two-year anniversary of delivering quality and professional inmate medical, mental, and ancillary healthcare services to Luna County. Providing the same high standard of care and services for inmate populations in small, rural counties such as Luna as is seen in large counties is quite challenging. Before their partnership with CorrHealth, Luna County’s previous providers experienced numerous challenges in recruiting and retaining qualified healthcare professionals and with meeting Luna County’s expectations of maintaining a high standard of care for their inmate patients. Due to the county’s remote location, their limited financial resources, and the competition from area hospitals and other healthcare providers, recruiting and retaining qualified, high-performing licensed providers is complex. To add to the complexity, Luna County contracts with Federal, Marshall, and other New Mexico counties to house their inmates, which results in rapid fluctuations and unpredictability with the county’s population, placing a strain on the healthcare provider and the county’s detention team.
“Even though we realize there are natural challenges associated with providing care in a small, rural county like ours, Luna County still expects the same standard of care and service that the larger counties receive, and we weren’t going to stop until we found it. Our taxpayers expect and deserve that from us,” said Chris Brice, Luna County’s County Manager and Director of the Adult Detention Center. “The stability CorrHealth’s team has delivered to this vital part of our organization is exactly what we needed to ensure our detainees receive the care they need and deserve. CorrHealth has not only exceeded our expectations for care and service, but they have also found creative solutions to our recruitment and retention concerns regarding healthcare staffing.”

In order to effectively recruit qualified healthcare professionals and meet the unique and evolving needs of the county, CorrHealth offers robust compensation rates and an industry-leading benefits program, which is standard within the company. Paramount in the healthcare industry, a team of CorrHealth leaders based in New Mexico who are tenured and skilled in the various intricacies of the correctional health care industry provides support and training to Luna’s medical teams. In an attempt to avoid the use of utilizing agency nursing, where nurses are often inconsistent, CorrHealth has recruited and established a team of New Mexico based travel nurses who are prepared to travel and fill in when called to duty.
“Providing correctionally-based healthcare programs and services is naturally complex but doing so in a remote and rural county like Luna, which has limited resources and a population that is variable and unpredictable from one day to the next, is a whole different level of complexity. We’re proud of the achievements of our teams and the partnership we have built with Luna County over the last couple of years,” said Todd Murphy, Co-Founder and President of CorrHealth, “With a strong and proactive recruiting team, a relentless composition, and the mindset to always be thinking outside the box, we’ve been able to recruit and retain a strong and dedicated healthcare team in Luna County over the past couple of years. Our collective success is based on the fact that we understand the natural challenges of what we do and we’re in this together. We can’t thank Luna County enough for that.”
