At CorrHealth, we believe that every team member plays a vital role in fulfilling our mission to “Do Right.” For Lissa Welsh, BSN, RN, an overnight floor nurse at our Garfield County partner facility in Glenwood Springs, CO, that mission comes to life every night as she delivers compassionate, high-quality care to one of the most underserved populations.
A Journey Inspired by Family and Passion
For Lissa, nursing has always been more than just a career; it’s a calling. Inspired by her mother, who went to nursing school at the age of 50, Lissa earned her own bachelor’s degree through an accelerated program in just over three years. Since becoming a nurse in 2014, she’s cared for a diverse range of patients in roles spanning assisted living, detox treatment, adolescent psychiatric care, and youth recovery.
“This is my favorite nursing position,” Lissa shares. “The diversity of patients and assessments makes every night different, and I feel like I get to make a real difference here.”
Life on the Night Shift
Lissa’s nights are anything but typical. From the moment her shift begins, she coordinates with the day shift nurse to review reports, count medications, and prepare for the evening med pass. She assists with sick calls, conducts detailed medical bookings, and manages ongoing care for patients undergoing overnight detoxification.
Every night brings unique challenges—from completing diabetic checks at 4 a.m. to handling unexpected situations like restraint assessments or injuries. Through it all, Lissa focuses on delivering timely, compassionate care while maintaining strong communication with detention staff.
“I feel like I have a great working relationship with my coworkers,” she shares. “Having a good rapport and being able to communicate effectively make all the difference.”
Serving the Underserved
Lissa’s passion for caring for those who need it most has guided her entire career, and it’s what she loves most about being part of the CorrHealth family.
“I absolutely love what CorrHealth stands for,” she says. “Every individual deserves caring and compassionate care, regardless of their situation.”
Her commitment has not gone unnoticed—Lissa was proudly nominated for Nurse of the Year last year, a testament to the impact she’s made on both her patients and her team.
A Life Full of Giving Back
Outside of her role, Lissa finds joy in giving back to her community. She volunteers at the local food bank, helps her mother deliver meals for Meals on Wheels, and enjoys spending quality time hiking, swimming, and relaxing with her best friend. At home, she shares life with her two adult children and their three beloved dogs—a golden doodle, a blue heeler, and a pit bull mix.
Thank You, Lissa
Lissa, your dedication, compassion, and teamwork embody what it means to “Do Right.” We are grateful for everything you do to care for your patients, support your colleagues, and make a difference in your community. Thank you for being an essential part of CorrHealth and for bringing heart to every shift you work!
