Every successful team thrives with the dedication and skills of professionals like Addie Vigil, the Charge Nurse at our Garfield County facility. Addie’s commitment, expertise, and supportive role contribute to the seamless operation of the medical team, ensuring patient care and teamwork are always prioritized.
What Does Addie Do as a Charge Nurse?
Addie’s role as Charge Nurse at Garfield County Jail is multifaceted, requiring exceptional organization and collaboration. She conducts health assessments for incoming patients, assists floor nurses with bookings and emergencies, and serves as a key liaison between patients, nurses, providers, the HSA, and jail administration. Addie ensures budget compliance, oversees medical and office supply inventory, and trains incoming nurses.
Her responsibilities extend to supporting providers during clinic visits, managing lab specimens, performing wound care, and documenting treatment plans. Additionally, she coordinates outside provider referrals, processes medical records requests, handles medical charges, and ensures equipment calibration. Addie also plays an essential role in patient education, helping patients understand medication compliance and public health.
Why Addie Loves Correctional Healthcare
For Addie, no two days are the same, which keeps her role dynamic and engaging. She likens her work environment to a mini emergency department, filled with unexpected challenges and learning opportunities. “Whether it’s encountering a new medication, learning about a rare diagnosis, or managing unusual wounds, each day brings fresh challenges and opportunities for growth,” she shares.
Addie’s motivation stems from the impact of her work and the strong support of her team. “Knowing that I’m making a difference in people’s lives, even in small ways, keeps me grounded and motivated,” she says. She thrives in the fast-paced environment, where every challenge presents a chance to grow.
