At CorrHealth, we are proud to introduce Adrian Johnson, our Health Services Administrator (HSA), at our Sandoval County Jail partner facility in New Mexico. Adrian brings over two decades of healthcare experience, dedication, and passion for making a difference in correctional healthcare. His journey into this field is inspiring, and his role is vital in ensuring smooth daily operations and high-quality care for our patients.
Adrian’s Healthcare Journey
Adrian’s healthcare career began over 20 years ago when he decided to become an EMT. He spent eight years working in an ambulance before transitioning to the Emergency Room at UNMH. During his time there, Adrian felt a calling to further his education and pursue nursing.
While nearing graduation in 2019, Adrian discovered correctional healthcare at a school job fair, a field he hadn’t considered before. “I graduated in 2019 and have been in correctional medicine my entire nursing career,” he shared. This unexpected opportunity turned into a career Adrian is deeply passionate about.
What Led Adrian to CorrHealth
Before joining CorrHealth, Adrian worked as a nurse supervisor at another detention center in New Mexico. A colleague who transitioned to the Sandoval County Jail shared how much she enjoyed the new facility and encouraged Adrian to explore the Health Services Administrator position. “I felt ready for more responsibilities and so very glad I made the decision to apply,” Adrian said.
Adrian’s Role as an HSA
As the Health Services Administrator, Adrian, mentions, “I make sure we are adequately staffed, that the team has the equipment they need, and that patients receive appropriate care.” Adrian also focuses on reviewing past performance, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing meaningful changes. His leadership philosophy emphasizes creating a positive work environment: “I want my team to feel appreciated, happy to come to work, and proud to work with me.”
CorrHealth’s Culture and Values
Adrian is driven by a desire to see change for the better. “If I can see that change has happened and know I played a role in it, I feel very accomplished,” he shared. He continuously seeks opportunities to improve processes, ensuring better outcomes for the team and the individuals they serve.
For Adrian, CorrHealth’s culture and support stand out. “I have never felt as included in a team as I have with CorrHealth,” he said. Adrian appreciates the strong sense of camaraderie that transcends all levels of the organization, from core staff to leadership. “When I met the leadership team, I was welcomed with such appreciation and support. It feels like being part of a family.”
Life Beyond Work
When he’s not leading his team at Sandoval County, Adrian enjoys spending his time outdoors and staying active. Golf and disc golf are two of his favorite pastimes. This summer, Adrian showcased his skills by winning his age bracket in a local disc golf tournament, an accomplishment he’s especially proud of.
Looking Ahead: Goals for the Future
Adrian’s passion for growth and learning extends into his future goals. “I want to continue my education and earn my master’s in nursing,” he said. Adrian aims to leverage his knowledge and experience to contribute further to the well-being of his community and the continued success of CorrHealth.
Adrian Johnson is an incredible asset to the CorrHealth team and the Sandoval County facility. His leadership, dedication, and focus on continuous improvement make a significant impact on his team and the quality of care provided to our inmate patients.
